Dog portrait.....

Hot of the press a commission I have been working on of a beautiful young golden retriever. She is the palest one I have seen to date, with just a smattering of straw around her neck, ears and eyes. She has a friend too who will hopefully be gracing the blog in a day or two when I have finished her. She is the other end of the scale being a glossy, black labrador... I will certainly be tested on my contrast skills! It's been nice escaping away into my drawing of late- we have the roofers in at the moment doing what they do best, so this is proving a welcome distraction!

Oh and isn't she a beauty!
Is it a bit of pink-ish tones I'm dectecting about the ears and neck Serena? Seems it's there ,,on my screen anyway. This is what fascinates me about painting. Often you find the strangest colors in the most unusual places, as in pink with the straw in dried grasses.
Enjoyed seeing this wonderful baby's portrait, you've done a beautiful job of it!

On the button as ever Babs! There is indeed a hint of pink where you said to tone the yellow down. Just like in the grasses... and some flesh tones on hoomins etc. Browns, pinks and yellow- lovely combinations. Glad you like the dog- I couldn't get her to pose without opening her mouth! She just kept grinning away!

What a beautiful portrait. You have captured such a good expression and the shading behind him sets him off to perfection. The owners will be delighted. Can't wait to see his friend!

Thank you Mems and Peps! I don't think the owners will be that delighted though if I don't get a wriggle on... these two are taking ages!
